ChatGPT And Plagiarism Concerns

|

Stephen Marche, article in The Atlantic magazine The College Essay Is Dead writes:

“The essay, in particular the undergraduate essay, has been the center of humanistic pedagogy for generations. It is the way we teach children how to research, think, and write. That entire tradition is about to be disrupted from the ground up.”

In a recent NPR Plant Money article, Greg Rosalsky writes that a 22-yr Edward Tian, a senior at Princeton University studying computer science and journalism, has developed a prototype App called GPTZero to answer the plagiarism concerns.

However, for venture capitalist and Internet pioneer like, Marc Andreessen, it’s not an issue. He wrote in his recent tweet “‘ChatGPT plagiarism,’ is a complete non-issue. If you can’t out-write a machine, what are you doing writing?”

Tian told NPR “We’re losing that individuality if we stop teaching writing at schools. Human writing can be so beautiful, and there are aspects of it that computers should never co-opt. And it feels like that might be at risk if everybody is using ChatGPT to write. […] If you’re a teacher or an educator, our team — which right now is just me and my best friend from college, who just joined yesterday — we would love to talk to you.”

Some Schools are reportedly already banning the use of chatGPT in schools reportedly due to student’s plagiarism concerns.
