Quoting data from HealthPartners, Star Trubune writes that “73% of its 727 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Minnesota and western Wisconsin over the past month involved unvaccinated people. Among the 99 patients placed on ventilators because of severe breathing difficulties, 89% were unvaccinated.”

At a local long-term care facility, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz told reporters commenting on current tightening hospital bed capacities “I think we are going to approach those peak numbers we saw last November in terms of bed space. And the reason this is so much more concerning is we still had a full complement of the healthcare workforce last November as opposed to now, where we’ve seen it’s down for different reasons.”

High Demand for Testing Sites

There is also reportedly high demand for Covid testing due to ‘public concern over the fast-spreading omicron variant and hourlong lines at existing sites’.

Announcing three additional Covid testing sites in in Anoka, Cottage Grove and North Branch, Gov. Tim Walz said “I can tell you this from personal experience: What starts out as a sore throat and a little bit of sniffles and a back ache, assume in the environment we are in that that is omicron. Get a test. Find out. … The sooner you find out, the sooner you are able to isolate and the sooner you are able to break that chain of spread.”
