Diwali and Bhai Tika 2021

|

This week Hindu’s around the World celebrated Diwali and/or Bhai Tika. Hindu community here in Minnesota also celebrated their yearly festival in the Twin Cities similar to previous years.

The CNN’s Harmeet Kaur and Alisha Ebrahimji has an interesting and educative article, highlighting especially how Indian American Hindu community are making their own by fusing Indian and Western cultures together.

Most of us celebrate these festivals to keep these traditions alive and would like to pass to our children who are not accustomed these local traditions that are celebrated back in our country of origins.

The idea is we’re coming together as a community. The fundamental part of Diwali that I want to pass on is that this is something special that our community celebrates, and I want that to be special for my children.

“As Indian immigrants have crossed oceans and borders for new countries, the holidays and traditions they brought with them have both endured and evolved with the next generation. Diwali — a festival with various meanings, histories and names depending on the region and religion observing it — is no exception,” write Harmmeet and Alisha on CNN.
