Finland – The World’s Happiest Country

According to the World Happiness Report 2021, Finland is the most happiest nation, out of 149 countries, in the World. “For the fourth year running, Finland has come out on top in the annual list powered by data from the Gallup World Poll, with Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands following in second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively,” CNN Travel reports.

According to the report, the United States moved slightly up from 18th to 14th place and the United Kingdom dropped from 13th to 18th.

Jeffrey Sachs, professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and report co-editor told:

“We need urgently to learn from Covid-19. The pandemic reminds us of our global environmental threats, the urgent need to cooperate, and the difficulties of achieving cooperation in each country and globally.”

According to the team behind the report, “This whole report focuses on the effects of COVID-19 and how people all over the world have fared. Our aim was two-fold, first to focus on the effects of COVID-19 on the structure and quality of people’s lives, and second to describe and evaluate how governments all over the world have dealt with the pandemic.”
