For Unvaccinated – ‘There’s a tsunami coming’

A recent CNN Health headline reads “There’s a tsunami coming’ for unvaccinated people” a dire warning from health experts. Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences and also CNN medical analyst told “this Omicron variant is extraordinarily contagious. It’s as contagious as measles, and that’s about the most contagious virus that we’ve seen”.

Forget the waves of Covid-19, “there’s a tsunami coming” for unvaccinated Americans as the Delta variant continues to fuel new cases and hospitalizations and the Omicron variant is spreading rapidly and could soon swamp hospital systems.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told CNN that yes, Omicron is coming but booster shots should fight it encouraging Americans to get booster shots because it’s the sensible thing to do.

Our vaccines will protect you, particularly if you are triple vaxed. People who are unvaxed should start the process now. Go ahead and go to your pharmacy and get vaccinated.

Dr Fauci added to CNN “The cases are going up. We have an average of about 117,000 cases. We have an increase in the percentage of hospitalizations. Deaths are still over a thousand. Then you have, looking over your shoulder, the Omicron variant, which we know, from what’s going on in South Africa and in the UK, is a highly transmissible virus.”

“That’s the reason why we are encouraging people, if they haven’t been vaccinated, to get vaccinated but, as importantly, for those who’ve been fully vaccinated to get a booster,” Dr Fauci said.

Additionally, health officials are also warning that this winter “seasonal flu” is making a come back together with already high cases of more contagious Delta variant.

Lori Tremmel Freeman, chief executive officer of the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), told CNN recently “There is growing concern that a rise in Omicron cases, paired with climbing Delta cases and an increase in flu cases, could overwhelm health systems this winter, as well as possibly leading to a need to ramp up Covid-19 testing capacities”.

It’s the combination. It’s kind of the perfect storm of public health impacts here with Delta already impacting many areas of the country and jurisdictions. We don’t want to overwhelm systems more.”

Lori Freeman predicted “When you think about how this virus has the potential to double every two days, then in a couple of weeks, we’re going to be facing a lot of cases of Omicron”.
