Masks Mandate Talks are Back

Health experts and state health administrators are reportedly talking about bringing back the masks mandates again due to surge in incidence of Delta variants in most unvaccinated regions of US.

In CNN Health, reporters Travis Caldwell, Paul Vercammen and Christina Maxouris write that Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations are now again exploding in many states including California, Arkansas, Florida and other rural states.

“Amid the rising numbers of infections, some state and local leaders are now recommending that masks to be worn indoors even by those who are vaccinated,” writes the CNN Health.

Barbara Ferrer, the county’s public health director of Los Angeles county reportedly told recently hospitalizations are also way up — with more than 680 hospitalized with Covid-19. Ferrer told CNN that due to vaccine disinformation unvaccinated people are reluctant to get vaccinated despite their risks of getting infected.

The most two dominant themes today are, ‘We don’t trust the government’s numbers, we think they’re not telling us the truth about the vaccine and how safe it is’.

“We have to work hard with all of our community partners so it’s not just government that’s saying how safe the vaccines are, but it’s the person at your pharmacy who’s telling you it’s safe, it’s your doctor, it’s your neighbor,” she told CNN.

Gov. Kay Ivey of Alabama reportedly called out the ‘unvaccinated people’ for the rise in Covid-19 cases.

Folks are supposed to have common sense. But it’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down.

In Arkansas, Gov. Asa Hutchinson reportedly noted disappointment that politics played a role in whether or not people decided to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Why is our vaccination rate lower? We’re a very rural state. We have a lot of resistance. It’s a conservative state. Sometimes conservatives are hesitant about the government, and we’ve just got to counteract that by getting better information to them, building confidence.

“…It is important that we encourage vaccinations. And we’ve got some medical professionals in the CDC that talk about whether you’ve been vaccinated or not, wear a mask. I think that’s the wrong message. If you’ve been vaccinated, that gives you the freedom not to wear a mask and that’s an incentive to go ahead,” Hutchinson told Greta Van Susteren during an interview.
