On Giving Tuesday

Day 14 of Daily Notes Series

Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement, refers to Tuesday after thanksgiving day holiday in US. This charitable giving day was initially started in 2011 by Carlo Lorenzo Garcia, producing director of non-profit Mary-Arrchie Theater Company urging donors to take a different approach to filling up an online virtual cart with goods. The day is celebrated as a movement of international charitable giving.

Created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

There are more than 200 Giving Tuesday community campaigns, a coalition of non-profits working together for common cause, in the US.

2019 Giving Tuesday

Based on the 2019 Giving Tuesday results posted by the Whole Whale & Giving Tuesday raised $511M from online donations in the US alone (a 28% increase from 2018).

Kindness & generosity not expressed with funds harder to quantify, just as meaningful. This is about co-creating a better world.
