On My Learning in Public

Day 16 Of Daily Notes Series

I am a self-taught technology enthusiast, open-source supporter & believer in life-long learning. For the past several years I have been learning-in-public on my own through tutorial posts, guides, trials & errors and through personal projects. Learning through open source ecosystem (eg. GitHub) or others offers an no-cost opportunity to learn in our own time & space with our commitment & efforts. I took advantage of this great opportunity to learn.

Learning in Public

It’s almost a decade that I started learning web development, what I called ‘semi-public‘. Why semi-public? It’s because I document all what I learn as a journal to reinforce me to conceptualize & retain the subject matter better. However, significant part of my learning-notes are still in private.

Until now, my learning approach has been best summarized in the following quote from Sara Soueidan.

Just write — write down what you learned, no matter how big or small. Start a blog and publish your writings there. Don’t think about whether or not people will like or read your articles — just give them a home and put them out there.

Sara Soueidan, Web Developer

Since 2018, when I started deep diving into JavaScript, ReactJS & GatsbyJs, I started posting all my learning-note posts in public. I am working on to put my entire learning-notes posts in public.
