Day 03 Of Daily Notes Series
This year’s Thanksgiving was forcasted to be a rare early season wintry storm with more than 8 inches of wet snow. And it did!
Getting Ready for The Winter
Before the winter snow storms knocked our doors, we made sure that our houses were ready for the winter season. For example, completing leaves raking, roof gutter cleaning to prevent from ice-dam build-up, getting ready snow blowers, snow shovels and keeping enough supplies of snow removal salt.
Over 8 Inches of Overnight Snow
We wake-up Wednesday (Nov 27) morning with 8.8 inch of wet and heavy pre-Thanksgiving day snow on our yard and driveway (see below). This was the first snow fall of the season.
More Snow During The Weekend
There was another batch of snowfall forecast after the Thanksgiving holiday from Thursday night (Nov 28) through Sunday (Dec 1). During this period, it dumped additional 4″ of snow. Within a week, we got more than 12″ snowfall in our yard. This was follow by sub-zero wintry temperatures for several days.
Here we go! Welcome to Minnesota winter season!
Minnesota Snow is both Loved & Hated
For Minnesota residents, snow is hassle for some, fun for others. Extreme Minnesota weather conditions is brutal for most residents (eg. snow shoveling, firing up snowblower, etc.) but adults, youths & kids have lot of fun in winter recreational activities.
Winter Recreational Activities
Minnesota offers both indoor and outdoor activities throughout the winter season. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) lists several winter activities including sledding hills, fat biking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and many others. A full list of winter actives is found in this link.
This post is work-in progress and will be updated throughout the winter season.
