Pres. Biden Warns Unvaccinated Americans

In a White House address last Tuesday, Pres. Joe Biden warned unvaccinated Americans that of “a winter of severe illness and death” as Omicron variant is sweeping across the US at an unprecedented rate that not see before.

Pres. Biden said that Omicron is “now spreading and it’s going to increase. For the unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death.” He reportedly urged unvaccinated Americans to get Covid-19 shots and asking to those who are already vaccinated to get their boosters as soon as possible.

“It’s past time” to get shots. We’re going to protect our economic recovery if we do this. We’re going to keep our school and businesses open if we do this.

Justin Sink of Bloomberg writes “Infections have surged 40% over the past two weeks across the country, and deaths have increased by more than a third during that same period, with more than 1,300 Americans dying of coronavirus daily.”

Pres. Biden is quoted saying “.. it’s here now and it’s spreading and it’s going to increase adding the virus would start to spread much more rapidly.”

Céline Gounder, infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist at New York University andBellevue Hospital, told reporters “I suspect that those numbers (Omicron) are going to shoot up dramatically in the next couple of weeks. She expects an Omicron wave to peak in late January and then come down sometime in February.”

The Guardian writes quoting the CDC that the agency presented two scenarios – based on their in-house model that “for how the variant might drive infections in the next few weeks and months. Omicron and Delta cases could peak as soon as January or a smaller surge of Omicron could happen in the spring.”

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID vaccination tracker page (as of Dec 23, 9 a.m.) 611,897,975 doses have been distributed and 500,222,330 doses administered. According MDH COVID-19 Response vaccine data (as of Dec 21) a total of 8,564,704 doses of Covid-19 (Pfizer & Moderna) vaccines have been administered in Minnesota. According to the MDH latest tally (as of Dec 23) the confirmed COVID-19 cases in Minnesota are 996,224 (out of 15,882,328 tested) with 10,306 deaths.
